COMMITTEE DETAILS

ASEAN - SOUTH CHINA SEA

ASEAN, or the Association of Southeast Asian Nations, has been a political and economic alliance of ten member nations, founded in 1967. ASEAN exists to assist in furthering prosperity, promoting regional stability, fostering cooperation, and providing mutual aid to its member states. In our time, ASEAN has most notably been involved in public health initiatives while threats to regional stability have caused internal strife and external pressure that threatens the very foundation of the organization. However, one of the biggest issues ASEAN faces is disputes over the South China Sea. Delegates will represent ASEAN member nations and associates as they seek to address the issues of economic rights and climate change in the South China Sea.
